Each holiday season, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida kicks off their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution. In collaboration with Miami-Dade County and Cheney Brothers, the Tribe distributes 5,000 turkeys to families in need through various charitable organizations across South Florida.
For many years, the North Bay Village Optimist Club has partnered with the Miccosukee Tribe, which generously donates 100 turkeys to the club annually. The club works closely with North Bay Village Elementary School (TIES), a Title 1 school, to provide turkeys to 100 families of students attending the school.

On March 18, 2025, several members of the Optimist Club visited the Miccosukee Tribe reservation in the Everglades to present a plaque to Secretary Osceola. The club is deeply grateful for the Miccosukee Tribe's long-standing commitment to providing 100 turkeys each year. It was an honor to meet Secretary Osceola and members of the Tribe during this special visit.
In addition to their philanthropic efforts in South Florida, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida is a federally recognized tribal nation. The Tribe is known for its resilience in preserving its culture and way of life in the Everglades, its dedication to protecting the tree islands of the Everglades, and its historic resistance to assimilation and removal.
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Optimist Club attended a special event at the Brockwell Memorial Library in Miami Shores. Secretary Osceola, the youngest-ever elected official of the Miccosukee Tribe, captivated the audience by sharing the Tribe’s rich history. His engaging slide presentation was both entertaining and highly educational, offering valuable insights into the Tribe's heritage and journey.
